Job Description :
Support and maintain the SQL Server 2008 – 2017 estate
1.Support the continuing operation of SQL Server maintenance jobs
Identify and resolve backup issues and other threats to the Business Continuity/DR plan
Maintain security including Logins, Roles, permissions, data security in line with PCI DSS and the Data
Protection Act and any other current legislation.
Ensure and improve system health and performance through monitoring, analyses, tuning and
optimisation
Monitor systems to ensure data integrity and reliability
Support and develop automated data import, export and archiving processes using SSIS and TSQL;
including gathering requirements from Business Analysts and data workers
Support virtual and physical, clustered and standalone servers, with single or multiple instances
Administer Reporting Services
Use and promote an ITIL based approach to IT incident management and service deliver
2.Take a proactive role in projects, providing SQL Server expertise in to the design, architecture and implementation of solutions meeting company/industry standards and best practices.
Work closely with internal developers and external service providers to deliver project goals including: new systems, upgrade existing systems and resolution technical issues
Shadow software providers working on company SQL Servers
Propose appropriate solutions and make recommendations
Maintain documentation for installations, configurations and business as usual processes
Provide project updates within project timelines and raise issues on a timely basis
Support the development team with peer reviews, query tuning, index optimisation and other DBA tasks
3. Support the planning and implementation of the agreed strategic direction of SQL Server
Work with the IT technical teams to ensure all proposed changes and enhancements are in line with agreed standards and that technical architecture reflects company needs and best in class for SQL Server.
Assist Line Manager in the design and implementation of short and long terms strategic plans to ensure server capacity meets existing and future requirements
Work with other technical and security teams to plan and deploy security standards and patches to SQL Server.
4. Resolve problems speedily and permanently
Use Redgate SQL Monitor and other tools to proactively monitor the SQL estate
Identify single points of failure and document recovery plans
Work with the IT Team to establish robust Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans
Participate in the annual Disaster Recovery test
In the event of a failure, or SEV1 incident, work at speed for optimal recovery.
When necessary be prepared to work late or out of hours to reach problem resolution and minimise impact to clients and customers.
